Bullorcs, Gnawballs and a BatRep!
My good buddy, Peter Gifford, of Esoteric Order of Gamers, played a few games of Space Gits this week, and posted one of his games to his YouTube channel!
I love watching other people try and play my games at this stage of a game's development, (technically known as "blind playtesting"), as it helps me see and understand where they are getting stuck on the rules, what excites them, and what they get confused about or misinterpret, all of which helps me improve either the game or the wording I'm using to communicate it.
I sent Peter an early draft of the next revision of the game, so what you are seeing is the v1.5 beta rules, which have just today been released!
As always, if you are a BRONZE Patreon backer or above, you get access to the game for free using this link: https://planetsmashergames.itch.io/space-gits/patreon-access
What's New In v1.5?
GOBLINS! GREMLINS! BULLORCS! GNAWBALLS!
This is actually a fairly major overhaul to the system, so here’s a summary of the main changes:
- Added ID Cards, and a Toughness stat.
- Added goblins, gnawballs, bullorcs, and gremlins.
- Changed list building to start you with no orcs and 25 caps. You can’t have more than 5 models. Orcs cost 5, so you can start with 5 basic dudes or 3 tricked out guys.
- Deployment is now at least 4” from bottle caps and enemy models.
- Adding an experimental JUMP rule.
- Guns now have a fixed range, the rolled value is instead compared to the Toughness value to check if the shot has done big damage.
- I removed Jams, as they were one rule too many.
- Changed the way Thump works, to use the new Toughness value.
- Nerfed both PINCH and PUT THE BOOT IN to steal just a single cap.
- Clarified that the active model in a fight resolves their effect first.
- Made Explode a core rule, and changed how it works to avoid having to drop dice directly onto my freshly painted models.
- Toned down the faction rules for City Swine and Mushroom Vikings, and swapped Da Fuzz’s rule for a more aggressive and less negative one. Made the Agitators’ rule slightly stronger.
Hanging out with Tyler
Tyler Russo (Billion Dollar Clown Farm) is hard at work on the kitbashing, painting and photography for the game, and we've been hanging out to discuss the factions, and the city the game takes place in. Tyler has been throwing a lot of fun ideas at me for the game, and I'm really appreciative of his enthusiasm for the 'Gits.
Feedback Needed!
I'd love you to playtest the game, and let me know your thoughts. I hope you enjoy it, but I'm most interested in what you DON'T enjoy, or what isn't clear, or seems weird or uninuitiatve. Help me make the game as good as it can be!
